On the occasion of the 56th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), General Romeo Brawner Jr., the chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), has issued a call for the remaining insurgents to lay down their arms. This appeal comes as the CPP and its armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA), face significant challenges, including a leadership vacuum, dwindling numbers, and reduced operational strength, largely due to effective government operations.
General Brawner emphasized the AFP’s ongoing vigilance against any attempts by the insurgents to disturb the peace of law-abiding citizens. He highlighted the success of the government’s comprehensive strategy, which has included decisive military actions and a whole-of-nation approach, leading to the weakening of the CPP and its allies. Currently, only one weakened guerrilla front remains, which is on the verge of being dismantled.
Despite these achievements, the AFP remains committed to its mission of ending the long-standing insurgency and ensuring that the CPP and NPA become irrelevant to the future of the Philippines. General Brawner encouraged the remaining members of the CPP-NPA to abandon their armed struggle, return to their families, and participate in building peaceful and progressive communities.
The AFP, along with other government agencies, is prepared to assist those who choose to surrender through various reintegration programs. General Brawner stressed the importance of working together to achieve lasting peace and a brighter future for all Filipinos.
