Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Marbil has praised the efforts of police officers in managing traffic congestion on the Rolando Andaya Highway in Camarines Sur. Their dedication has significantly reduced traffic jams that previously extended over 17 kilometers, according to Marbil. The PNP has increased its presence by deploying additional Highway Patrol Group (HPG) personnel to manage traffic around the clock. This response was necessary due to traffic issues exacerbated by road repairs following recent typhoons.
The officers have implemented a 30-minute interval scheme, allowing vehicles from opposite directions to alternate passage, which has effectively reduced congestion. They have also played a crucial role in securing Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) equipment, ensuring the timely delivery of materials needed for road rehabilitation. Marbil highlighted the police’s innovative approaches, such as setting up diversion routes for lighter vehicles, directing motorists to alternative paths like the Sipocot-Camarines Norte or Sta. Elena-Capalonga, Daet, Camarines Norte routes.
Marbil commended the officers for their resourcefulness and dedication, noting that their 24-hour presence has made travel safer and more efficient. The PNP continues to collaborate with the DPWH, Land Transportation Office (LTO), and local government units to monitor and address traffic conditions. Motorists are advised to remain patient, adhere to traffic advisories, and utilize designated alternate routes to ease travel during this period.
