Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Marbil has commended the police force for their significant contribution to easing traffic congestion on the Rolando Andaya Highway in Camarines Sur. The commendation came on December 25, 2024, highlighting the police’s dedication and hard work in managing a situation where traffic once extended over 17 kilometers.
Marbil emphasized that without the police’s intervention, the traffic issue would have continued to plague the area. The PNP has deployed additional officers from the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) to manage traffic around the clock. This deployment was in response to increased congestion due to ongoing road repairs necessitated by recent typhoons.
On the ground, officers have implemented a 30-minute interval scheme, allowing vehicles from opposite directions to pass alternately, significantly reducing congestion. Additionally, the police have been crucial in securing Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) equipment, ensuring the timely delivery of materials needed for road rehabilitation.
Marbil also praised the police for their innovative approaches, such as setting up diversion routes for light vehicles. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes like the Sipocot-Camarines Norte or the Sta. Elena-Capalonga, Daet, Camarines Norte routes to avoid congested areas.
The PNP continues to collaborate with the DPWH, Land Transportation Office (LTO), and local government units to monitor and address traffic conditions. Motorists are urged to remain patient, adhere to traffic advisories, and utilize designated alternate routes to facilitate smoother travel during this period.
