·

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has announced that families of inmates, referred to as persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), will be permitted to visit and stay overnight at correctional facilities during the Christmas and New Year holidays. BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. detailed in a memorandum that the stay-in privileges will be organized in two separate groups to accommodate more families while ensuring the facilities remain orderly. For Christmas, the first group was allowed to stay from 8 a.m. on December 24 to 7 a.m. on December 25, and the second group from 8 a.m. on December 25 to 7 a.m. on December 26. For New Year’s, the first group will stay from 8 a.m. on December 31 to 7 a.m. on January 1, 2025, and the second group from 8 a.m. on January 1, 2025, to 7 a.m. on January 2, 2025. Catapang emphasized that the holiday initiative underscores BuCor’s dedication to fostering family connections, which are vital to the rehabilitation of PDLs. He stressed the importance of allowing inmates the chance to maintain meaningful relationships with their families, even while incarcerated.
