MANILA – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has announced that a robust force of 78,000 police officers and firefighters will be on high alert to maintain peace and prevent any disturbances during the remainder of the holiday season. DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla emphasized the department’s commitment to ensuring a safe and joyous celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, reflecting on the year’s achievements amidst numerous challenges.
Remulla highlighted that members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) are all prepared to safeguard the festivities. He detailed that nearly 40,000 PNP officers and about 38,000 BFP firefighters are ready to respond to any emergencies. Additionally, the BJMP is on alert to ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year for those in detention.
In his statement, Remulla expressed gratitude for the year’s successes and reaffirmed the DILG’s dedication to fostering a peaceful, prosperous, and progressive Philippines as the country approaches the New Year. He stressed the collective journey towards a better future.
Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, PNP spokesperson, reported that no major incidents occurred on Christmas Eve, underscoring the effectiveness of the security measures in place.
