In a devastating incident on Monday afternoon, a van crash in Tupi, South Cotabato, resulted in the death of seven passengers and left the driver seriously injured. The accident occurred on a barangay road when the Mitsubishi FB van, carrying tourists from Northern Mindanao, lost its brakes. The driver, in a desperate attempt to stop the vehicle, crashed into a tree on a downhill stretch of the highway in Barangay Cebuano. The victims had been enjoying a vacation in Polomolok and had just visited a tourist attraction in Tupi before the tragedy struck. Emil Sumagaysay, the municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer, confirmed the fatalities and the driver’s condition at the scene. Emergency services responded promptly to the crash site, but were unable to save the passengers.
