A significant development in Metro Manila’s infrastructure is on the horizon as a three-hectare property owned by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) in Quezon City is slated to become a pivotal intermodal transport facility by 2026. This initiative, dubbed Project HUB, stems from a directive by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. aimed at tackling the region’s escalating traffic issues through innovative solutions.
GSIS President and General Manager Arnulfo Veloso emphasized the project’s potential to revolutionize daily commutes and enhance mobility. He highlighted the recent quadripartite meeting held at the GSIS main office in Pasay City on December 18, 2024, which included key figures from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Quezon City’s local government. The meeting focused on the progress of Project HUB and outlined the next steps for 2025.
Veloso noted the collaborative spirit among the involved government entities, which is crucial for easing traffic concerns and fostering economic growth in Quezon City and its surrounding areas. Discussions during the meeting covered updates on the project’s Terms of Reference from the DOTr, as well as plans for a temporary transport facility to be operational by next year, while a more comprehensive plan for the permanent hub is developed.
The commitment to this project was reaffirmed by all parties, aligning with the administration’s vision for sustainable and innovative infrastructure. Attendees at the meeting included MMDA chairman Romando Artes, DOTr Assistant Secretary Leonel Cray De Velez, PMS Director Joanna Micah Eufemio, and representatives from the Quezon City government.
