Quezon City’s GSIS Property Set to Transform into Key Transport Hub by 2026

·

A significant development is on the horizon for Quezon City, as a three-hectare property owned by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) at the intersection of Elliptical Road and Commonwealth Avenue is slated to become a vital intermodal transport facility by 2026. This initiative, dubbed Project HUB, stems from a directive by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., aimed at tackling the escalating traffic issues in Metro Manila through innovative infrastructure.

GSIS President and General Manager Arnulfo Veloso emphasized the project’s potential to revolutionize daily commuting and enhance mobility. He highlighted the recent quadripartite meeting held at the GSIS main office in Pasay City on December 18, 2024, which included key figures from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Quezon City’s local government. The meeting focused on the progress of Project HUB and outlined the next steps for 2025.

Veloso noted the collaborative spirit among the involved government entities, which is crucial for easing traffic, boosting mobility, and fostering economic growth in Quezon City and its surrounding areas. Discussions during the meeting also covered the immediate implementation of a temporary transport facility next year, while a comprehensive plan for the permanent hub is developed.

The commitment to this project was reaffirmed by all parties, aligning with the administration’s goal of promoting sustainable and innovative infrastructure solutions. Attendees at the meeting included MMDA Chairman Romando Artes, DOTr Assistant Secretary Leonel Cray De Velez, PMS Director Joanna Micah Eufemio, and representatives from the Quezon City government.
