·

In a compassionate move, Manila’s city government has disbursed PHP25.8 million to assist 8,600 families through its ‘Unang Abuloy ng Maynila’ initiative. This program, launched on January 22, 2024, following an ordinance signed by Mayor Honey Lacuna, aims to provide financial relief to families mourning the loss of loved ones. Each family receives PHP3,000 to help cover funeral expenses, acknowledging the rising costs of burial services. Councilor Philip Lacuna emphasized the city’s commitment to supporting its citizens during their time of grief, not only financially but also emotionally. Mayor Lacuna has also instructed the city’s social welfare department to create a comprehensive guide detailing the support services available from both city and national agencies for bereaved families.
