Malacañang Dismisses Survey Dip, Emphasizes True Leadership Over Popularity

·

In a recent statement, Malacañang emphasized that the performance of the government under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. should not be judged solely on the basis of public opinion polls. This comes in response to a reported slight decline in the President’s trust and approval ratings as per a Pulse Asia survey. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin highlighted that effective leadership often involves making decisions that may not be immediately popular but are in the best interest of the public. He stressed that the Marcos administration’s actions are driven by the pursuit of public interest rather than the desire for high ratings in opinion polls. Bersamin described surveys as mere ‘dipstick readings’ of public sentiment at a particular time, suggesting that they should not be the only measure of governance. He argued that more substantial indicators, such as employment rates, should be considered to gauge the nation’s progress. Despite the survey results, the Palace remains committed to its key priorities, including enhancing livelihoods, promoting economic growth, and ensuring future security. Bersamin affirmed that the administration’s focus on these critical areas demonstrates its dedication to tangible outcomes over fluctuating popularity.
