The Laguna Police Provincial Office (LPPO) has launched the ‘Ligtas Paskuhan 2024’ initiative to ensure a secure holiday season. Starting on December 22, 2024, this plan includes both defensive and proactive measures to protect the public and prevent crime during the festive period. In Calamba City, Laguna, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed 1,045 officers to increase visibility in areas popular with both locals and tourists. Acting Provincial Director Col. Gauvin Mel Unos stated that police presence is heightened at churches, major roads, transport hubs, shopping centers, and other public areas. Additionally, 425 personnel from various government agencies, including the Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, are aiding in maintaining order and security. The campaign also benefits from the support of 12,914 volunteers from local advocacy and support groups working alongside the Laguna PNP. To improve patrol efficiency, the police have increased the use of mobile units, deploying 98 motorcycle and 22 bicycle officers, and utilizing drones for aerial surveillance in busy and crowded locations. Over the last two days, no incidents have been reported under the PNP’s eight focus crimes, which include robbery, theft, physical injuries, rape, motorcycle theft, car theft, homicide, and murder. Under Project Paskulong, directed by Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Calabarzon, the police are targeting individuals with outstanding warrants who may try to return home for the holidays. In the past two days, Laguna police have arrested four most-wanted individuals and three others with warrants. Col. Unos emphasized that the PNP will stay on high alert, maximizing deployment and operations to safeguard communities and tourists, expressing gratitude to the government agencies and volunteers supporting their efforts during the holiday season.
