BJMP Mimaropa Escalates Security Measures for Holiday Season

·

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in the Mimaropa region has announced a red alert status for its jails during the holiday season to safeguard inmates, visitors, and staff amidst expected high activity. The alert will be active from December 24 to 26, 2024, and from December 31 to January 2, 2025, as stated by Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, the operations and information officer.

This heightened security measure is designed to thwart potential jailbreaks and maintain order within the facilities, especially as large crowds are anticipated during the festive period. Anglo highlighted that the BJMP is preparing for not only an increase in visitors but also the movement of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) participating in holiday events.

The BJMP-Mimaropa, headquartered in Batangas City, is responsible for 19 jails across the region, with the highest number of PDLs at Bansud District Jail (306), followed by Brooke’s Point District Jail (300), and San Jose District Jail (269). Throughout the holidays, jail personnel will stay on duty, and officials will conduct regular inspections to ensure security.

Additionally, the Regional Operations Division has warned against indiscriminate firing during New Year celebrations, emphasizing the BJMP’s commitment to safe and orderly operations during this peak time. Anglo stressed the importance of public cooperation in adhering to safety protocols to ensure a peaceful holiday season.
