MANILA – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has given the green light for its frontline officers to share holiday greetings with travelers during the festive season, promoting a message of inclusivity and respect. BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado has instructed airport staff to keep their greetings courteous and welcoming to all, irrespective of their religious or cultural beliefs.
Viado highlighted the global reputation of Filipinos for their warmth and hospitality, particularly during the holiday season. He emphasized that greeting travelers is not just about spreading cheer but also about showcasing the Filipino spirit of celebration, marked by respect and inclusiveness.
Despite the festive atmosphere, Viado reminded government employees that accepting gifts or tokens is strictly prohibited. He encouraged travelers to express their gratitude through smiles and greetings instead, noting that such gestures boost the morale of officers who are away from their families during the holidays to serve the public.
The BI is preparing for an expected increase in airport traffic, with an estimated 110,000 daily arrivals and departures during the holiday period. Travelers are advised to arrive early and adhere to immigration procedures to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
The agency reaffirmed its dedication to delivering efficient and friendly service throughout the holiday season.
