In a harrowing incident in Zamboanga City, Sulu’s provincial election supervisor, Vidzfar Amil Julie, narrowly escaped a deadly shooting, while his older brother, Naser Amil Asiri, aged 57, tragically lost his life. The attack took place on a Saturday morning around 10:30 a.m. in Sitio Villa Sta. Maria, Barangay Sta. Maria, as the two were returning home from Zamboanga International Airport.
According to Julie, the assailants, riding a motorcycle, approached their vehicle and began shooting. Julie, who had just arrived from Jolo and was driving, believes he was the intended target, possibly due to his role in election supervision. His brother, Asiri, who had come to pick him up from the airport, was sitting in the passenger seat when he was fatally wounded.
The Zamboanga City Police Office has initiated a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators. Meanwhile, George Garcia, the Chair of the Commission on Elections, strongly denounced the attack, emphasizing the brutality of the incident and the tragic loss of an innocent life caught in the violence.
