During the 89th founding anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored the importance of the AFP’s modernization efforts in addressing cybercrime and other emerging national security threats. Marcos praised the AFP for its agility and responsiveness to the evolving security landscape, describing the current threats as complex and multifaceted, extending beyond traditional battlefields.
The President highlighted the growing challenge of cybersecurity threats and the dangers posed by misinformation and disinformation, which he said undermine democratic values. Despite these challenges, Marcos commended the AFP for its steadfastness and its role in fostering peace, progress, and solidarity in building a stronger, more resilient Philippines.
Marcos reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the Self-Reliant Defense Posture Revitalization Program, aimed at reducing reliance on foreign sources and enhancing local capabilities. He emphasized that modernization involves not just acquiring advanced equipment but also transforming the AFP’s mindset, actions, and operations as a unified force.
The President also acknowledged ongoing efforts to leverage technology, strengthen strategies, and develop the skills of military personnel to elevate the AFP’s standing on the global stage. During the event, Marcos honored First Lieutenant Dhell Jun Evangelista with the ‘Medalya ng Kagitingan’ for his exemplary service and sacrifice, expressing gratitude for his contributions to national security.
Marcos urged the AFP to continue embodying its core values of honor, service, and patriotism, while reaffirming the government’s full support for its modernization and welfare. He encouraged the AFP to uphold honor in adversity, lead with compassion during crises, and inspire with humanity, positioning the AFP as the embodiment of the Filipino spirit that stands firm against oppression and prioritizes national welfare.
