Metro Pacific Iloilo Water Plans P1 Billion Investment for 2025 Upgrades

·

Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW) is gearing up for significant enhancements in its infrastructure and services, with a planned investment of PHP1 billion in 2025. This announcement comes on the heels of completing PHP235 million worth of projects in the current year. Jerry Guillergan, head of MPIW’s Engineering Department, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming initiatives, stating, “We have invested more this year, and we will continue to invest even more next year. Imagine PHP1 billion worth of projects for the next year.”

A key project for 2025 is the development of a central monitoring system that will facilitate real-time monitoring of water resources, pressure, and distribution. This system will help MPIW pinpoint areas with supply shortages or surpluses, enabling more balanced and efficient water distribution. Guillergan noted, “We will know which area has a low supply and which area has an oversupply so we can equalize water distribution.”

The service expansion plans for 2025 will extend to Pavia and the districts of Molo, Mandurriao, and Jaro in Iloilo City. This includes the second phase of hydraulic system pipe replacements in Jaro and further upgrades in Molo, such as the installation of a primary desalination line.

Additionally, MPIW aims to address health concerns related to acute gastroenteritis in densely populated areas like Barangay Sinikway, Rizal St., Bo. Obrero, and Mansaya in Lapuz, where water access is currently limited. Guillergan emphasized the need for improvement, saying, “The area is densely populated, and their comfort rooms are not good. We will improve the water services because they have no source of water.”

The PHP235 million projects completed this year focused on service expansion, service improvement, and reducing non-water revenue. Among the completed projects are three service expansion initiatives, two asset replacement projects, Sahara leak detection activities, and the retrofitting of Carpenter’s Bridge. Four other projects are currently underway.
