President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has expressed his intention to carve out a brief moment of ‘quality time’ with First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos on Christmas Day, amidst a packed schedule. Speaking to reporters at an event in Pasay City, Marcos mentioned his desire for a small break during the holidays, hoping to spend it with his family and indulge in some reading. He plans to be in Manila on Christmas but will also travel to Baguio. Marcos acknowledged the challenge of coordinating family time, noting that his three sons have numerous plans, and his own schedule remains highly flexible due to his constant availability for presidential duties. He emphasized that he does not have days off, stating, ‘I’m not exempted. We’re not exempted from having vacation, holiday, and weekend. We’re not exempted.’ Since taking office in 2022, Marcos has traditionally spent Christmas in Manila with his family. Additionally, for the third consecutive year, the Marcos couple has opened the Malacañang grounds to the public for the ‘Tara Sa Palasyo’ festivities, allowing Filipinos to partake in the holiday spirit. The celebrations include the nine-day Misa De Gallo at the Mabini grounds, followed by traditional Filipino treats like puto bumbong and bibingka with hot chocolate. Evening events feature a free carnival-themed Christmas display, open to the public from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. until December 23.
