Lagdameo Denounces Violent Killings in Maguindanao, Vows Justice

·

In a strong statement from Manila, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Ernesto Lagdameo Jr. expressed his condemnation of the recent violent killings in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur. He emphasized that such acts of violence are unacceptable in the nation. Lagdameo extended his deepest sympathies to the families affected by the tragedy, particularly noting the deaths of Jinn Utto Lumenda-Basalo and her infant daughter, who were ambushed while traveling to Barangay Gaunan on December 12. The attack also claimed the life of the mini van driver, Nunokan Manalindo, a local from Rajah Buayan. According to Rajah Buayan Mayor Bai Maruja Ampatuan Mastura, the deceased woman was married to one of her military escorts. Authorities are exploring the possibility that the ambush was motivated by a family feud, known locally as ‘rido’. Lagdameo assured that the national government is actively collaborating with local law enforcement to conduct a thorough and rapid investigation to apprehend those responsible and prevent future incidents. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to the safety and security of all citizens, stating that acts of violence and impunity would not be tolerated. Lagdameo also committed to ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability throughout the region.
