The provincial government of Dinagat Islands was granted PHP5 million by the Department of Agriculture in the Caraga Region (DA-13) as part of the Enhanced Kadiwa Program. The handover occurred on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, and was personally conducted by DA-13 Regional Executive Director Arlan Mangelen to Nilo Marco Demerey, who represented Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. of Dinagat Islands. This financial support follows a PHP1.6 million grant given to the local government of Libjo the previous day.
The funds will be utilized to acquire a winged-van hauler truck and a refrigerated van, which are essential for transporting farm and fishery products to market centers. These vehicles are expected to enhance the ‘Kadiwa sa Kapitolyo’ program and other agribusiness initiatives, aiding farmers and fisherfolk groups across the province.
The acquisition of these facilities is aimed at ensuring the safety and preservation of perishable goods, thereby supporting the provincial government’s efforts towards food security. The Dinagat provincial government expressed appreciation for the DA’s initiatives under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration, noting that the Enhanced Kadiwa Program plays a crucial role in maintaining a steady and affordable supply of fresh produce and fishery products in local markets.
This grant is anticipated to significantly benefit thousands of farmers and fisherfolk in Dinagat Islands, reinforcing the region’s agricultural and fishery sectors.
