DepEd and LRA Join Forces to Accelerate School Building Projects

·

In a significant move to enhance educational infrastructure, the Department of Education (DepEd) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Land Registration Authority (LRA). This collaboration was announced in Manila and aims to expedite the construction of school facilities across the nation. The partnership involves the transition from manual to electronic land titles, a change that DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara believes will eliminate delays in building new classrooms. Angara emphasized that the absence of proper titles has been a major obstacle in securing a stable future for educational development. LRA Administrator Sirios echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of securing assets to ensure the welfare and future of the youth through quality education. The agreement is seen as a step forward in tackling bureaucratic inefficiencies and addressing the persistent issue of classroom shortages. Angara has also been advocating for increased public-private partnerships to further speed up construction efforts, including initiatives like the Adopt-A-School program and collaborations with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to streamline procurement and construction processes. Currently, the DepEd reports a backlog of approximately 159,000 classrooms.
