DSWD Allocates PHP1.9 Billion for Crisis Relief in Central Visayas in 2024

·

In a significant move to support those in need, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has successfully disbursed PHP1.9 billion in aid to 443,101 individuals in Central Visayas by November 25, 2024. This aid, part of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program, has been a lifeline for many in the region.

Shalaine Marie Lucero, the Regional Director of DSWD-7, highlighted that a substantial portion of the funds, PHP936.6 million, was dedicated to medical assistance, reaching 209,209 beneficiaries. The program’s reach extends beyond medical aid, offering support for burial expenses, transportation, education, food, and other urgent needs through direct cash, guarantee letters, or family food packs.

Lucero emphasized the importance of ensuring that the aid reaches the intended recipients without any deductions or commissions. She stated, “During payouts, we remind beneficiaries that the aid is for their use only and cannot be transferred or reduced by intermediaries.” To access the aid, recipients are required to present valid identification and supporting documents, such as a case summary from local social welfare offices.

The AICS program is designed to be accessible, with medical assistance available per hospital admission and other forms of support accessible every three months. DSWD collaborates with pharmacies, hospitals, and NGOs to streamline the delivery of assistance, ensuring that it reaches those in need efficiently.
