Dinagat Farmers Receive P1.6-Million Kadiwa Grant for Refrigerated Van

·

In a significant boost to the agricultural sector of Libjo, Dinagat Islands, the Department of Agriculture in Caraga (DA-13) has awarded a PHP1.6-million grant under the Enhanced Kadiwa Program. The grant was handed over during a ceremony on December 17, 2024, led by DA-13 Regional Executive Director Arlan Mangelen to Libjo Mayor Melody Compasivo. The funds will be used to purchase a refrigerated van, aimed at enhancing the transport of farm and fishery products.

The refrigerated van is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining the freshness of agricultural and fishery products, thereby reducing post-harvest losses during transportation to market centers. Municipal agriculturist Lope Loverio emphasized the van’s importance in streamlining the delivery process, particularly to initiatives like the ‘Tabo sa Kapitolyo’ (Market at the Capitol), which will help ensure timely market access for local producers.

Loverio also highlighted that the new van would enable Libjo to expand its market reach, offering new opportunities for local farmers and fishers to increase their sales. The Enhanced Kadiwa Program, through such grants, continues to support the agricultural community by improving production capabilities and market access, ultimately aiming to enhance the profitability of farmers and fishers.
