In a heartfelt gathering at Malacañan Palace, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., alongside First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos, hosted the ‘Pamaskong Handog Para sa Pamilyang Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)’ on December 17, 2024. This festive event was designed to celebrate and honor the dedication of OFWs and their families.

He acknowledged the significant economic contributions and personal sacrifices made by OFWs, emphasizing their role in enhancing the Philippines’ global reputation.
During his speech, Marcos highlighted the government’s efforts to deepen ties with host nations, stating, ‘To ensure our fellow Filipinos abroad are protected and safe, we are intensifying our cooperation and fostering good relations with various countries.’
The President also outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for OFWs and their families. These include educational scholarships for their children and livelihood support for returning migrants. He pointed out recent developments such as the inauguration of the Bagong Pilipinas Cancer Care Center at the OFW Hospital in Pampanga and the establishment of an OFW lounge at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
Marcos praised the Department of Migrant Workers, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and other government branches, including consulates and embassies worldwide, for their collaborative efforts in safeguarding OFWs’ welfare.
He lauded the OFWs for their talent, compassion, and dedication, which he said have significantly contributed to the positive image of the Philippines abroad. ‘Our reputation has become so good because of you. The world is proud of Filipinos,’ Marcos stated, emphasizing that the remittances sent back home by OFWs are invaluable.
