The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that the first day of the traditional Simbang Gabi, or dawn Masses, across the country was marked by peace and order. On December 16, 2024, Filipino Catholics gathered at various churches, including the St. Peter Parish: Shrine of Leaders in Quezon City, to participate in this cherished holiday tradition.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo reported no untoward incidents on the first day of the nine-day event. She expressed hope that the remainder of the Simbang Gabi would continue without serious incidents. Fajardo noted the significant attendance at churches but emphasized that the atmosphere remained peaceful. To ensure safety during the holiday season, the PNP has increased police presence in crowded areas, including places of worship, major roads, and transport hubs.
Police were deployed early to cover evening Masses and areas likely to be visited afterward. Fajardo also confirmed that no serious or credible threats have been detected that could disrupt the holiday festivities. She assured that the PNP is fully prepared to respond to any potential threats, maintaining the highest level of readiness to safeguard the public.
