Philippine Aviation Authority Bolsters Wildlife Protection and Safety Measures

·

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has reaffirmed its dedication to wildlife conservation and environmental sustainability by conducting a specialized airport wildlife management course. Held at the Civil Aviation Training Center, the course concluded on December 13 and was designed to enhance operational efficiency, improve air traffic safety, and protect biodiversity. CAAP Director General Manuel Tamayo emphasized the importance of such training in addressing ongoing challenges like wildlife hazards and bird strikes within the aviation sector. The course provided detailed strategies for managing these risks effectively. CAAP’s commitment extends to maintaining a balance between safety, operational efficiency, and environmental care. Earlier in the year, Tacloban Airport, managed by CAAP, conducted simulation drills to prepare for incidents such as bird strikes. Recent news highlighted the real-world impact of these hazards when an American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing due to engine damage from a bird strike.
