In a bid to ensure a peaceful and secure holiday season, the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Eastern Visayas has mobilized 4,500 officers as part of the ‘Ligtas Paskuhan’ 2024 initiative. The deployment, which began on December 16, aims to safeguard the region during the festive period.
The Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) has assigned 2,000 officers to protect public spaces, supported by 569 personnel from additional units and 706 members from advocacy groups. These officers will be stationed at critical locations including religious sites, main roads, transport hubs, shopping districts, and other public venues where crowds are expected.
Additionally, 2,500 police officers will oversee areas designated for community fireworks and firecracker activities, backed by 687 augmentation units and 854 advocacy group members.
PRO-8 Director Brig. Gen. Jay Cumigad emphasized the importance of this deployment, noting the expected increase in travel as people return to their hometowns for the holidays. This influx is anticipated to lead to congestion at roads, transportation centers, airports, and seaports.
Cumigad stated, ‘Our commitment is to ensure a peaceful and safe holiday season for all. Through Ligtas Paskuhan 2024, we will enhance our security measures, prevent crime, and respond promptly to any threats. We ask the public to stay alert and work with us to make this holiday season enjoyable and secure for everyone.’
The entire PRO-8 force will be on high alert throughout the holiday season to maintain maximum readiness and responsiveness.
