BARMM Chief Minister Approves P94.4 Billion Budget for 2025

In a significant move, BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim has signed into law the Bangsamoro Autonomy Act No. 65, securing a P94.41 billion budget for the fiscal year 2025. The signing took place during a ceremony at the Diamond Hotel in Manila on December 11, 2024, following the Bangsamoro Parliament’s approval of the budget the previous day.

Chief Minister Ebrahim highlighted that this could be the last budget passed under the transition government, marking a pivotal moment for the region. The budget, which received 55 votes in favor and one against in the Bangsamoro Parliament, underwent thorough scrutiny and deliberations before its passage.

Mary Ann Arnado, a member of the BARMM Parliament and chair of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority’s finance, budget, and management committee, emphasized that the budget is designed to address key areas such as poverty reduction, economic growth, and quality of life improvements. The 2025 Bangsamoro Expenditure Program (BEP) allocates significant funds to education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social services.

A notable aspect of the budget is the allocation to Sulu, ensuring the continuation of projects despite the Supreme Court’s decision that the province is no longer part of BARMM. The Bangsamoro Information Office stressed that this move demonstrates the government’s dedication to providing uninterrupted services to the region, regardless of political boundaries.

Arnado also stressed the importance of maintaining the current direction to achieve the government’s objectives as the transition period nears its end. The 2025 budget is poised to bolster BARMM’s efforts in reaching its goals during this critical phase.
