Cavite POGO Employees Receive Due Payments Post-Closure

·

In a significant move to support workers affected by the closure of two Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) in Kawit, Cavite, over 260 employees from First Orient International Ventures Inc. and K3 Global Services Inc. were paid their final salaries, 13th-month pay, and separation benefits. The payout, facilitated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) at Island Cove on December 5, 2024, marked a crucial step in aiding those impacted by the shutdown of these Internet Gaming Licensees on November 30.

DOLE-Cavite’s efforts were led by Provincial Director Marivic Martinez and Senior Labor and Employment Officer Ruth Terrible, who ensured the accuracy of the separation pay calculations and assisted workers in securing their Social Security System (SSS) unemployment benefits. Terrible highlighted DOLE’s commitment to the welfare of displaced workers, ensuring they receive their rightful dues.

The payments varied, with some long-serving employees receiving between PHP170,000 to PHP180,000, while others received amounts based on their tenure. Six workers unable to attend the payout will receive their payments in February next year. Additionally, around 400 employees had already been compensated in an earlier distribution.

Beyond financial assistance, DOLE offered livelihood programs and facilitated SSS unemployment benefit certifications. Early applicants for these benefits have received between PHP10,000 to PHP15,000. Despite the closure’s emotional toll, workers expressed appreciation for the prompt handling of their claims and the support provided.

DOLE continues its advocacy for these workers, encouraging participation in job fairs and leveraging opportunities through the Special Action Plan and Transition Jobs Program to help them find new employment and regain stability.
