GSIS Allocates PHP514 Million in Emergency Loans for Typhoon-Affected Luzon Residents

·

MANILA – The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has set aside PHP514 million to provide emergency loans to 23,469 members and pensioners impacted by recent typhoons in Luzon. The initiative targets individuals in the calamity-stricken areas of Quirino, Apayao, Aurora, Santiago City, and Cabagan, Isabela, which suffered from typhoons Nika (Toraji), Marce (Yinxing), Ofel (Usagi), and Pepito (Man-yi).

According to a GSIS statement released on Thursday, eligible members who do not have an existing emergency loan can apply for up to PHP20,000. Those with an outstanding loan balance can borrow up to PHP40,000, as long as the net amount received does not exceed PHP20,000. The loans come with a 6% interest rate and a repayment period of three years, along with redemption insurance that covers the remaining loan balance if the borrower dies during the loan term, provided payments are current.

The application window for residents of Quirino, Apayao, and Santiago City closes on December 20, while those in Aurora and Cabagan, Isabela, have until December 24 to apply. To qualify, applicants must live or work in the affected areas, not be on unpaid leave, have paid premiums for at least six months, have no pending legal issues, and ensure their net take-home pay remains at least PHP5,000 after deductions.

Old-age and disability pensioners in these regions are also eligible to apply, provided they maintain at least 25% of their net monthly pension after loan repayments. Applications can be conveniently submitted through the GSIS Touch mobile app, available on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
