In a tragic turn of events, authorities in Zamboanga City have confirmed the death of Eastman Elliot, a 50-year-old American who was kidnapped from his home in Barangay Poblacion, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte. The incident occurred on the night of October 17, and Elliot succumbed to gunshot wounds inflicted by his captors during a struggle as they attempted to transport him away by motorboat.

Lt. Col. Ramoncelio Sawan, the acting information officer for the Police Regional Office 9, reported that the Critical Incident Management Task Group (CIMTG) ‘Eastman’ learned of Elliot’s fate through a witness who detailed the violent encounter. The witness stated that Elliot was shot twice and his body was subsequently discarded into the sea. Despite thorough search efforts, Elliot’s remains have yet to be found.

Following the investigation, the CIMTG ‘Eastman’ lodged formal charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention against four suspects on October 29. One suspect was apprehended on November 18, while the search continues for the remaining two fugitives.

Elliot, originally from Vermont, had been residing in Sibuco for five months with his local wife when he was forcibly taken at gunpoint from their home. The CIMTG has vowed to utilize all available resources to ensure the perpetrators face justice.

The abduction and subsequent murder of Elliot have sparked concerns about the security of foreigners in the region. Local authorities have reaffirmed their dedication to seeking justice for Elliot and enhancing safety measures for expatriates.
