The 2024 Antique Provincial Athletic Association Meet (APAAM) is scheduled to commence on December 4, with enthusiastic support from local government units (LGUs) across Antique. The event was highlighted by a photo opportunity where Antique National School principal Roger Jomolo and San Jose de Buenavista Mayor Justin Encarnacion were seen with athletes following the distribution of uniforms on December 3, 2024.
The LGUs have been instrumental in providing both parade and playing uniforms, boosting the morale of the athletes. Dr. Oliver Servillon, the sports coordinator for the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique, expressed that the athletes are highly motivated due to the support they’ve received.
The opening ceremony will feature a parade starting from Evelio B. Javier Park and concluding at Binirayan Gymnasium. Notable figures such as DepEd Antique superintendent Nicasio Frio, Representative Antonio Agapito Legarda, and Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, along with other provincial officials, will lead the ceremony. Approximately 2,500 athletes and 1,000 coaches and officials are expected to participate in the parade.
The competition will span 23 sports events and continue until December 8. Although the official opening is set for December 4, the baseball competition has already begun at Camp General Leandro Fullon in San Jose de Buenavista.
Servillon emphasized the importance of sportsmanship among the athletes, noting that the meet is a crucial part of their holistic development, guided by their educators. The athletes are accommodated at Antique National Schools and Delegate Angel Salazar Jr. Memorial School in San Jose de Buenavista.
