In a devastating incident caused by relentless rainfall, a 49-year-old woman lost her life, and her 50-year-old husband sustained injuries after being trapped by a collapsed riprap in Cebu City. The tragedy unfolded on Sunday, with the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office confirming the details on Monday. The couple was found buried under debris from their home in Sitio Calma, Barangay Tisa, following a landslide that occurred around 8 p.m. Rescue operations managed to extract the husband by 12:30 a.m., but the wife, buried deeper, was not freed until 2 a.m. Despite efforts to revive her with CPR and immediate hospital transfer, she was pronounced dead at 3:20 a.m. The husband, though rescued, suffered a broken leg. Their son revealed that the family had previously expressed concerns about the stability of the riprap, which they believed was poorly constructed, but their warnings were ignored. In response to the disaster, four nearby families were evacuated. In a separate event, another landslide in the upland barangay of Sapangdaku saw a house tumble down a hill, fortunately without injury to its owner.
