In a significant blow to drug trafficking in Iloilo City, the local police force executed two successful anti-drug operations on Wednesday, resulting in the seizure of 775 grams of shabu valued at nearly PHP5.3 million and the apprehension of three suspects. The first operation, conducted by the City Drugs Enforcement Unit, targeted a high-value individual known as ‘Bulldog’ in Barangay East Timawa. This evening raid around 7 p.m. led to the confiscation of approximately 500 grams of shabu, estimated at PHP3.4 million. Earlier that day, at 11:25 a.m., operatives from Police Station 1 nabbed another high-value target, ‘Inday Lyndy,’ along with a street-level dealer, ‘Mark,’ in Barangay Muelle Loney, seizing 275 grams of shabu worth PHP1.87 million. Mayor Jerry Treñas praised the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) for their proactive stance, noting that their efforts have been crucial in preventing the spread of harmful drugs and protecting Ilonggo families from their devastating effects. Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, director of the Police Regional Office 6, highlighted the intensified efforts to curb drug supply, including the establishment of an interdiction task force at ports and airports. He stressed the importance of not only focusing on arrests and seizures but also on the rehabilitation of drug users and strengthening anti-drug abuse councils at the barangay level to enhance community resilience against drug abuse.
