LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the Bicol region has allocated over PHP14.5 million to support typhoon-affected residents of Camarines Sur through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program. According to a statement released on Wednesday, DOLE-5 Regional Director Imelda Gatinao announced that the funds were used to pay wages and provide personal protective equipment to 3,463 workers across several municipalities this month. The recipients hailed from the towns of Lupi, Milaor, Pasacao, San Fernando, Bombon, Canaman, Sangay, and San Jose. DOLE-Bicol has set aside a total of PHP210 million for the emergency employment initiative in Camarines Sur, aiming to offer relief to those impacted by the typhoon. Each TUPAD participant engaged in community rehabilitation tasks such as clearing debris, sanitizing public areas, and other cleanup efforts, earning PHP3,950 for 10 days of work. Gatinao emphasized the role of community involvement in sustainable recovery, stating that the program not only addresses immediate needs but also provides an opportunity for affected individuals to contribute to rebuilding their communities. She reaffirmed DOLE’s commitment to ongoing support and thanked all partners involved in the TUPAD program’s execution. The initiative offers short-term employment for disadvantaged workers, allowing them to participate in community projects for 10 to 30 days.
