In a recent address at the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc. (AmCham Philippines) event in Davao City, former Senator Panfilo Lacson urged the nation’s leaders to take swift action to reduce the escalating political tensions. Lacson, speaking as the guest of honor during the thanksgiving and election of the Board of Governors, emphasized the importance of national unity and encouraged Filipinos to play a role in calming the situation.
Lacson expressed his dismay at the current political climate, stating that such conflicts were unimaginable just a couple of years ago. He highlighted his discussions with AmCham Philippines members, who expressed worries about how the ongoing political disputes could deter potential investors. Lacson recounted a conversation with the executive director, who suggested that the visible discord might make investors reconsider their plans to invest in the country.
The former senator specifically called on Senate President Chiz Escudero and other key figures to mediate and facilitate a dialogue between the conflicting parties. Lacson proposed a temporary ceasefire, stressing the need to halt the hostilities for the good of the nation. He expressed hope that leaders could find a way to bring the opposing sides to the negotiating table.
Despite the current tensions, Lacson reassured the public of the country’s resilience and security. He reminded attendees of the numerous challenges the Philippines has faced and overcome in the past, expressing confidence that all current issues could be resolved through dialogue and cooperation.
