In a show of solidarity, the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP), comprising 149 members, has publicly declared its support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and his family. This statement comes in the wake of recent verbal assaults and threats made by Vice President Sara Duterte against the President and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. The LCP’s stance was articulated in a statement released on Sunday, endorsed by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, the acting national president, and Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, the national chairman. The mayors emphasized their commitment to supporting the Marcos administration and urged all leaders to focus on the well-being of the Filipino people rather than engaging in personal conflicts. They strongly condemned any actions that could destabilize the government under Marcos’s leadership. The LCP criticized Duterte’s behavior as inappropriate and dangerous, highlighting that such actions not only jeopardize the safety of national leaders but also threaten the overall peace and security of the nation. They expressed deep concern over any suggestions of harm towards key government figures, labeling such threats as irresponsible and detrimental to democracy and the rule of law. The LCP also addressed the issue of the use of public funds by the Office of the Vice President, stressing that such matters should be handled with the seriousness they deserve, not through public accusations or divisive behavior. The city mayors demanded an end to all inflammatory and personal attacks, calling on all involved parties to maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect. They reaffirmed their unwavering support and prayers for the safety of all public officials, particularly the First Family, warning that any threats against them would be met with legal action. The LCP vowed to stand against any actions or rhetoric that promote division, incite violence, or undermine the integrity of public service.
