In a significant event held at The Marison Hotel in Legazpi City on November 25, 2024, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) in Bicol celebrated the contributions of various partners towards the realization of universal healthcare. The ceremony, attended by private stakeholders, local government units, and regional leaders, was a platform to acknowledge the efforts of those who have significantly supported the National Health Insurance Program in the region.
PhilHealth Regional Vice President Alberto Mandurio emphasized the importance of the gathering, stating it was a step closer to achieving the goals set by the Universal Health Care Act. He highlighted the commitment to expanding and enhancing the benefits provided to Filipinos, making them more relevant and responsive to their needs.
The event saw the recognition of several entities. In the private sector, Sunwest Construction and Development Corporation, Filminera Resources Corporation, and Ateneo De Naga University were awarded as Top Performing Employers. Government sector awardees included the Department of Education divisions in Sorsogon and Masbate, the Department of Health, and the provincial and city governments of Masbate.
Top performing Konsulta providers were also honored, including Josefina Belmonte Duran, Albay Provincial Hospital, and various rural health units and health offices across Bicol. Additionally, media partners such as Idol News FM, Care DWAY, Radyo Pilipinas, the Philippine Information Agency, and the Philippine News Agency received Partner in Service Excellence Awards for their role in disseminating health information.
The ceremony also recognized UHC champions, including governors and mayors from Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, and the cities of Labo and Tabaco. Mandurio encouraged all PhilHealth members in the region to engage with Konsulta providers to access additional healthcare benefits, reinforcing the collaborative effort towards a healthier Bicol region.
