Northern Samar and Benguet Forge Ahead with Sisterhood Agreement

·

In a significant move towards regional collaboration, the provinces of Northern Samar and Benguet have pinpointed 10 key areas for a forthcoming sisterhood agreement, set to be formalized in January next year. The decision was reached during a strategic meeting held in La Trinidad, Benguet on November 21, 2024, attended by officials from both regions.

Jhon Allen Berbon, who leads the Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (PEDIPO) in Northern Samar, emphasized the dual purpose of the pact: to enhance the bond between the two provinces and to create a robust platform for sharing knowledge and best practices across multiple sectors. The sectors identified for cooperation include tourism development, agricultural improvement, local economic initiatives, information technology, urban planning, socio-cultural engagements, income generation, fiscal management, healthcare services, and public education enhancements.

Berbon highlighted the potential of this partnership to significantly advance the welfare of both provinces, marking a dedicated effort towards sustainable development and mutual growth. This initiative follows a benchmarking visit by Benguet officials to Northern Samar, where they explored successful investment facilitation strategies, particularly in the realm of alternative energy, which has attracted substantial investments to Northern Samar.
