The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has committed to enhancing the educational landscape in Eastern Visayas by investing PHP468.14 million in infrastructure projects for state universities and colleges (SUCs) in the region. This initiative, set to commence in 2025, is part of a broader effort to upgrade educational facilities across the Philippines. The funding for these projects has been secured through the 2024 national budget, following an agreement signed with 10 SUCs in Eastern Visayas.

The projects will cater to a variety of needs, including the construction and rehabilitation of academic buildings, covered courts, dormitories, laboratories, learning resource centers, and innovation and incubation centers.
The allocation of funds is as follows: PHP106 million for Biliran Province State University, PHP50 million for Palompon Institute of Technology, PHP40 million for Eastern Samar State University, PHP45.6 million for Visayas State University, PHP77.94 million for Eastern Visayas State University, PHP95 million for Leyte Normal University, PHP13.6 million for Northwest Samar State University, PHP15 million for Southern Leyte State University, and PHP25 million for the University of the Philippines-Manila School of Health Sciences Palo, Leyte campus.
