In a devastating noontime incident on Thursday, November 21, 2024, a fire swept through a residential area in Barangay San Pedro, Molo, leaving 57 families without homes. The fire, which started at 12:22 p.m., was brought under control by 1:16 p.m., but not before it destroyed 46 houses and partially damaged two others. Acting Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon reported the extensive damage and confirmed that the affected families, totaling 240 individuals including seven border families and two sharers, are currently sheltered at Molo 1 Elementary School. The City Social Welfare and Development Office is actively involved in the response efforts. Mayor Ganzon has mobilized social welfare and health teams to offer temporary housing, food, medical care, and counseling to the victims. Additionally, static water tanks with a 2,000-liter capacity have been set up at the school to provide safe drinking water. The mayor has called on the community to assist those who have lost everything in the blaze. Investigations into the fire’s cause are ongoing.
