Davao City’s Task Force Davao (TFD) organized its first-ever Muslim Youth Congress on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, drawing 80 young Muslim leaders to the event. The congress, held in Davao City, was designed to empower the youth and secure the future of the city’s next generation. TFD commander Col. Darren Comia emphasized that the primary goal of the congress was to shield young Muslims from radicalization and enhance their participation in the city’s peace, security, and development efforts. ‘We aim to safeguard Davao City’s future by preventing our youth from being swayed by local terrorist groups and other threats,’ Comia stated. The event focused on equipping participants with vital skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication, enabling them to contribute positively to their communities. The congress also served as a platform for the Muslim youth from the city’s six tribes to engage in policymaking and promote peace and security in Davao City and the broader Mindanao region. Participant Izdihar Mangelen highlighted the importance of the summit as a space for unity and idea-sharing for the betterment of the region. Another attendee, Rana Mahmod, expressed gratitude towards the city government for launching the initiative, noting its significance in fostering a stronger Muslim community in Davao City.
