In a swift response to the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Pepito, known internationally as Man-yi, the Ako Bicol (AKB) Party-list has mobilized significant relief efforts for the residents of Catanduanes. The typhoon, which struck on November 16, 2024, left a trail of destruction across the province, severely impacting homes and agricultural lands.

On November 18, AKB dispatched three trucks loaded with 2,500 relief packs provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). These packs, containing essential items like rice, canned goods, and noodles, were transported to the island via a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessel. The urgency of the situation was underscored by AKB Representative and House Committee on Appropriations chair, Elizaldy Co, who emphasized the immediate need to support the affected communities.

Co also announced plans for additional shipments of construction materials, including wood, iron, and nails, to aid in the reconstruction of damaged homes. He expressed gratitude to House Speaker Martin Romualdez for his support during this crisis, highlighting Romualdez’s commitment to the Bicol Region.

“We are deeply thankful to Speaker Martin Romualdez for his concern for the Bicolanos. He has been a steadfast partner in our efforts to assist the people of Bicol,” Co stated. He reaffirmed AKB’s dedication to leading the response to the needs of Bicolanos during such challenging times, assuring the residents of Catanduanes of continued support from both AKB and Speaker Romualdez.
