Victorias City and MTRCB Join Forces to Promote Responsible Media Consumption

·

In a significant move to foster responsible media consumption, Victorias City in Negros Occidental has partnered with the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). The collaboration was officially sealed on November 17, 2024, with a memorandum of understanding signed by MTRCB Chairperson Diorella Maria Sotto-Antonio and Victorias Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez at Marjhun’s Snackbar and Restaurant.

Mayor Benitez expressed gratitude towards the MTRCB for their commitment to this vital initiative, which aligns with the city’s goals of promoting responsible media and safeguarding children. He emphasized the shared vision of creating communities that are well-informed, compassionate, and media-literate, capable of critically engaging with media content.

The signing event coincided with a ‘Responsableng Panonood’ seminar, attended by 150 participants from various sectors. The seminar covered critical topics such as imitative behaviors, digital parenting strategies, parental controls, and the viewing experiences of Filipino children on digital platforms, along with age-specific screen time guidelines.

Chairperson Sotto-Antonio highlighted the seminar’s role in their ongoing efforts to encourage responsible viewing and empower Filipino families to select content that aligns with their values and promotes positive development.

This partnership marks a continuation of the MTRCB’s engagement with Victorias City, which began with a similar seminar in September of the previous year. Under the new MOU, the MTRCB will support the city in enhancing awareness and understanding of the film and television classification system. They will also contribute to media literacy programs, including seminars, workshops, film expositions, and multi-sectoral summits.

In return, Victorias City will assist the MTRCB by providing resources and support for advocacy efforts related to the classification and rating system of media content. A dedicated team from the city will work closely with the MTRCB to ensure the effective local promotion of the ‘Responsableng Panonood’ campaign.
