In a swift response to a devastating tornado, the local government of Pamplona, located in Cagayan province, has provided shelter repair kits and tarpaulins to 12 affected households and a chapel. The tornado struck on a Sunday afternoon, causing significant damage as it moved across the national highway from Sitio Limittung in Barangay Sta. Cruz to Barangay Bagu. The repair materials, supplied by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), were promptly delivered by the Office of Civil Defense in Region 2 the previous week. Hadji Bacuyag, who leads the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office-Quick Response Team 18 in Pamplona, reported that the tornado occurred amidst the onslaught of Super Typhoon Pepito on Luzon. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the tornado. Bacuyag noted that the homes damaged by the tornado had recently been repaired following earlier typhoons, with their galvanized iron sheets having been newly replaced.
