In a move to enhance transparency and accountability, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO) is set to equip all 112 of its patrol vehicles with dash cameras. This initiative was highlighted during a ceremonial installation at Camp Gov. Antonio Sison in Lingayen, attended by Ilocos Police Regional Office Director Brig. Gen. Lou Frias Evangelista on November 15, 2024.
PPO Director Col. Rollyfer Capoquian emphasized that the installation of dash cams aligns with the broader digitalization efforts of the Philippine National Police. To date, 47 vehicles have already been fitted with these devices. Capoquian noted that dash cameras serve multiple purposes, including maintaining the integrity of police officers, providing evidence, and accelerating investigations, particularly in traffic-related incidents and other police operations.
This project is part of a larger initiative by the Police Regional Office-Ilocos Region (PRO-1) to install closed-circuit television cameras in various establishments and public areas to deter criminal activities. Brig. Gen. Evangelista added that this effort complements the use of body-worn cameras by police officers during operations, further ensuring transparency, legality, and accountability on the roads.
