On a rainy Thursday in Baguio City, the Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) announced its readiness to tackle Typhoon Pepito, expected to impact the Bicol Region on Saturday. In a video message shared on the Civil Defense Cordillera’s Facebook page, CDRRMC chair and Office of Civil Defense Director Albert Mogol emphasized that the region’s disaster management resources are well-stocked, even after a series of recent tropical storms.
Mogol confirmed that replenishment efforts have been finalized to guarantee the availability of humanitarian relief for those affected by the approaching typhoons. He highlighted the CDRRMC’s collaboration with various agencies, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Public Works and Highways, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.
Residents in areas susceptible to landslides were urged to evacuate preemptively and stay informed about weather updates. Mogol stressed the importance of prioritizing personal safety. The Baguio City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office recommended that the public use the emergency number 911, keep an eye on weather reports from reliable sources, assemble emergency kits, secure their homes, and minimize outdoor activities.
Benguet is expected to see moderate to heavy rainfall from Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon.
