In a significant stride towards national identification, over 4.52 million individuals in the Davao Region have successfully registered for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) ID, according to the latest figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) 11. This impressive number represents 97% of the targeted 4.66 million registrations for the region as of June 30. The registration drive, which has seen active participation across various locales, was highlighted by a recent event at Mini Forest Barangay 23-C in Davao City, where residents queued at the barangay gym to secure their IDs. The initiative, which concluded on November 15, particularly focused on enrollees from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). The breakdown of registrations shows Davao del Sur leading with 2.1 million, followed by Davao del Norte with 995,881, Davao de Oro with 666,765, Davao Oriental with 483,871, and Davao Occidental with 274,525. To date, more than 3 million national IDs have been delivered in the region, supplemented by an additional 2 million IDs in paper form. The PSA credits this success to the collaborative efforts of local government units, government and private organizations, and the dedication of registration personnel. The PhilSys ID, serving as the official national identity card, not only aims to streamline access to government services but also enhances security measures to combat identity fraud. Furthermore, it plays a crucial role in improving access to healthcare, social welfare, education, and promoting financial inclusion by enabling citizens to engage more effectively with the formal economy through banking and credit services.
