Camiguin province has been hailed as the national exemplar for disaster preparedness and response, as announced by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Cagayan de Oro City. During a recent nationwide earthquake drill, OCD Administrator Ariel Nepomuceno praised Camiguin’s approach to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), urging other provinces to emulate its strategies. Nepomuceno described Camiguin as the ‘gold standard’ in disaster management, highlighting its exemplary practices during his visit to Northern Mindanao with local officials and DRRM council members. Camiguin Representative Jurdin Jesus Romualdo emphasized the province’s dedication to disaster readiness, driven by its past experiences with natural calamities. Governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo further stated that the earthquake drill showcased Camiguin’s commitment to safeguarding its residents, serving as a model for other regions.
