In a significant boost to agricultural productivity, the Department of Agriculture’s Bicol office (DA-5) has distributed combine harvesters valued at PHP78 million to eight farmers’ cooperatives and associations (FCAs) in Camarines Sur. The handover took place early this month at the DA’s regional office in Pili town, marking a pivotal moment for local agriculture.
Lovella Guarin, spokesperson for DA-5, highlighted that the equipment would significantly enhance the productivity of the recipient FCAs. The beneficiaries include the San Vicente Association of Corn Farmers, Umasarig Agriculture Cooperative of Panicuason, United Corn Growers of Pili, Bato Farmers Federation of Cawagacan, Sipocot Farmers and Fisherfolks Agriculture Cooperative, Maydaso Farmers Small Water Irrigation System Association Inc., Antipolo Minalabac Farmers Association Inc., and Balid and Tagas Agri-Farmers’ Association.
DA officials emphasized that while the machinery is provided at no cost, it must be well-maintained, or it could be reclaimed by the department. Purita Aala, president of the San Vicente Association of Corn Farmers, expressed gratitude for the harvesters, noting their critical role in speeding up harvests, especially during rainy conditions.
