NORECO II Enhances Dauin Substation to Tackle Increased Power Needs and Voltage Issues

·

In Dumaguete City, the Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative (NORECO II) has initiated an upgrade of its substation located in Dauin town to cope with the growing demand for electricity and to improve service quality. Fe Marie Tagle, the general manager of NORECO II, announced that the capacity of the Dauin substation will be increased from 4.2 megavolt-amperes (MVA) to 10 MVA. During the upgrade process, the substation’s load is being temporarily managed by Feeder 9 of the Bagacay substation in Barangay Bagacay, ensuring continuity of service. Tagle reassured the public that there would be no power interruptions in areas served by the Bagacay substation due to its robust capacity of 50 MVA across two transformer units. The upgrade project is expected to last 45 days. Additionally, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) is deploying a mobile capacitor bank in Barangay Maayong Tubig, Dauin, to mitigate low voltage problems. This capacitor bank will help maintain stable voltage levels from the 69 kilo-Volt (kV) line in Amlan town to the Dauin substation, where voltage drops to around 60kV due to the distance. The Dauin substation also supplies power to NORECO II’s member-consumer-owners in Bacong. Dauin is a significant tourist destination in Negros Oriental, known for its resorts and the renowned dive site, Apo Island, while Bacong, located near the capital city, is experiencing growth in residential and commercial sectors.
